Tron: Disney on Ketamine

Drugs experience has been sneaked into films in all manner of subtle and not-so-subtle ways (c.f. the Beatles' Yellow Submarine)... But here, in the 1980s, is Disney's own film about "going into a computer game"... just so happens the games experience as portrayed here has a striking resemblance (right down to the sound and everything) to the "K hole" of the ketamine trip...

Thorn Birds: Beach Scene (Love Theme Music)

The book was a massive international hit when it came out in the late 1970s. The only romantic novel I have ever managed to read to the end...

Then the TV adaptation starring Richard Chamberlain as the Pristley Lover, was a huge success when broadcast in the early 80s.

How many of you remember this, the Love Theme music...?

All these years later and still it has not gone out of my mind!

Nuclear Bomb Power

I found a really poetic compilation of nuclear test fireworks, it was absolutely beautiful... Nuclear fusion is the very power of God Almighty in action and this video is the nearest thing I could find to it today...

Randy Pausch: Last Lecture

Sufferer of terminal pancreatic cancer, this guy, a professor at an American university, gave a true Last Lecture in line with a famous academic lecture series:~

Here he is interviewed by a Diane Sawyer. Famous on American TV, yet far, far poorer than Oprah (how can she look herself in the MIRROR each morning?!? How does she survive on only $10 million a year? That's a question for HER to answer, only she just likes giving questions OUT~ haha! Yes! Diane Sawyer, the same lady who did my Whitney Houston/Bobby Brown interview last year... !!

Howard Hughes' OCD from The Aviator movie

Starring Leonardo di Caprio as the "eccentric" recluse, Howard Hughes in Martin Scorsese's 2004 film The Aviator. Dating and hobnobbing with many of Hollywood's most famous leading ladies of the classic era, Hughes was one of the richest and most powerful Americans of his day. Life was blitzed and blighted however by a case of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) severe enough to keep the man hidden away as a chronic recluse for many, many years... Cate Blanchett co-stars as Katherine Hepburn, the one true love of Hughes's life.

The film also features Kate Beckinsale as Ava Gardner, Gwen Stefani as Rita Hayworth and Kelli Garner as Faith Domergue, the ice-cream-eating postwar starlet and Hughes's attempted replacement for the irreplaceable Katherine Hepburn...

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a psychiatric condition whose sufferers feel compelled (often through a near-phobic fear of "contamination" repeatedly to wash the hands, count numbers, repeat words, actions or rituals or to perform other tasks... and as stated in the film "if performance of these isntructions varies, even to the smallest degree, the entire procedure must be scrapped and started over"... In its most extreme manifestations, OCD can become a totally debilitating condition, robbing its sufferers of any semblance of a normal life...

EastEnders: Bianca's Jackson Five

This is absolute classic. A BBC trailer for their "top" soap; ginger whinger Bianca, now a single mother of FIVE makes a return after nearly a decade away... chucked out of her house and following the petroleum scent of the car-mechanic love of her life she always called (at the top of her considerable voice) "RICK-AAAY!"...

Romeo y Juliet (Zeferelli) Balcony Scene (en espanol)

Is it true, poetry sounds better in foreign languages? Here, then, is Shakespeare in Spanish...

Goethe's Faust

I've always wanted to see this, Goethe's "masterpiece" on film. And yet never ever EVER has it come on British television...

Zeferelli Romeo and Juliet "first love scene"

In the play, Juliet is just FOURTEEN?!? She doesn't look much older here...

Liz Does A Nigella

I didn't know where to put this one. My celebrity blog (bc Liz deserves it, not Nigella ;->) or here where you would expect it. But the clip is so important, I consider it requires placing in both slots...

Liz is my blogger friend from Wales: Nigella = Nigella Lawson, svelte TV chef and daughter of Britain's most famous Thatcherite Chancellor of the Exchequer (finance minister) ...

Is Europe A Country?

This is excerpted from one of those gameshows where they pit a stupid (in this case American) adult against rather a bright child but from something like the 3rd "grade" ...

And I purloined the entire clip from Debs' blog ...

George Bush: Let's Bomb Heaven

George W believes heaven is full of Weapons of Mass Destruction... and because of an intricate complexication involving the dead Saddam Hussein... well you'd better watch it yourself... This purloined from Gattina's Writer's Cramps...
